The Assembly meets in yearly regular sessions from September to December, where they discuss specific issues through dedicated agenda items or sub-items, which lead to the adoption of resolutions. The Philippines is one of the original 51 charter members that created the United Nations in 1945.
In 2022, Marcos delivered the country’s national statement during the UNGA high-level general debate, which marked his debut on the world stage as the country’s head of state.
The President called on UN member states to support the Philippines’ bid for a non-permanent seat on the UN Security Council, reiterating that the country was “a friend to all and an enemy to none.”

In 2023 and 2024, Marcos skipped the UNGA. He was represented by former Foreign Affairs secretary Enrique Manalo.
